Leadership: the moral courage to stand up and point out a new course and the vision to select the right destination.
Mindset: do what you’ve always done, and you will get what you’ve always got.
Whether you think you are or you think you are not – you’re absolutely correct. Mindset. At any given moment that you and I have a thought, we have a thought that limits us to the notion of. That thought puts a bound on the “unlimited” boundlessness of our nervous system.
What we focus on determines your life. When we change your beliefs, your focus, we change your reality. What we believe in, is real, is going to be real; when we change your beliefs and focus we change your reality. This is an important part of the concept.
Recently [2010] I read a true story about a 49 year old who was the self-proclaimed #1 Salesman in the world – but for the first 35 years, he was a loser. His father beat him as a kid [the old days]. His father [the only object in his eyes that was a role model for him] said: “you’re no good, you will never be nothing, you will end up in jail”. Soon enough, he started to believe this. He was nothing; he never graduated school – kicked out twice. Every job he ever worked; he got fired. He stole twice; caught both times and spent time in a juvenile facility. The mindset that got him there, was mindset that got him out of there. He wanted to prove to his father that he was “better than a loser, that he wasn’t a drop out, that he was good, that he will be more”. Perhaps, we love “the underdog”; it is s/he who is living in a world with nothing and climbing to the top to everything.
But it was mindset: there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. Whatever you think you are, you are always more than that.
